China Association for Standardization Hosts Third Standardization Conference in Ningbo

From July 2 to 3, 2026, the Third Standardization Conference, organized by the China Association for Standardization (CAS), was held in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. The event was co-organized by the Ningbo Municipal Administration for Market Regulation and the People’s Government of Beilun District, Ningbo.

The conference brought together over 1,300 on-site participants, including leading experts, scholars, research institution heads, and standardization professionals from various provinces, municipalities, and industrial sectors. More than 100,000 viewers followed the proceedings via live online streaming. Senior officials from CAS and the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), along with representatives from other national and local regulatory bodies, attended the plenary session.

Under the theme “Standards Leading Innovative Development, Standards Enabling Win-Win Cooperation,” the conference comprised one main plenary and six parallel sub-forums, focusing on association standards, low-latitude security protection, new energy vehicles and high-end equipment, international green standards, AI and standardization, and enterprise standardization.

The six concurrent sub-forums addressed standardization across key strategic sectors:

  • Association Standards Sub-Forum: Focused on transitioning from quantitative growth to quality-driven development, with experts sharing cases on technology transfer, vaccine supply chains, cross-border trade, and new-material processes.
  • AI and Standardization Sub-Forum: Explored pathways for standards to guide AI innovation and high-quality industrial growth through collaboration across industry, academia, research, and users.
  • Low-Altitude Security Protection Sub-Forum: Released China’s first Guidelines for the Construction of a Low-Altitude Security Protection Standards System (2026 Edition) and initiated four association standards for UAV countermeasure systems.
  • New Energy Vehicles and High-End Equipment Sub-Forum: Brought together stakeholders to discuss standards frameworks, innovation practices, and international alignment in the NEV and high-end equipment sectors.
  • International Green Standards Sub-Forum: Featured the launch of the monograph Theory and Practice of Product Carbon Footprint Management Systems, the first systematic academic work in China on carbon footprint management.
  • Enterprise Standardization Sub-Forum: Focused on how standardization supports modern industrial systems and high-quality enterprise development, with in-depth discussions on reform trends, good practices in standardization conduct, and talent cultivation.

The conference has further refined the pathways for building a modern standardization system, advancing the implementation of standards digitalization, industrialization, and internationalization. For EU stakeholders, it highlights the need to closely monitor China’s evolving standards framework, while also pointing to potential areas for dialogue and alignment on shared priorities.
