Foreign Language Versions of 2613 Chinese National Standards Now Free to Access

On 14 March 2026, the National Standardization Administration (SAC) announced that the full texts of foreign language versions of Chinese national standards are now available for public preview and free download. A total of 2,613 national standards, covering 20 key areas including equipment manufacturing, overseas contracted projects, bulk commodities, information technology, and new energy, can now be accessed through SAC’s National Public Service Platform for Standards Information. These standards are available in 11 languages: English, Russian, French, German, Japanese, Lao, Khmer, Mongolian, Burmese, Portuguese, and Vietnamese.

According to Wei Hong, Director-General of Standards Innovation and Management Department of SAC, the foreign language standards program is designed to support multilateral initiatives such as the Belt and Road and facilitate smoother trade flows for Chinese products. To this end, SAC has promoted 7 special projects involving translation of nearly 800 national standards. These include:

  • 172 standards for large-scale equipment, of which 66 have been released;
  • 219 standards for the “New Trio”(electric vehicles, lithium batteries, and photovoltaics), of which 119 have been released; and
  • 31 standards for Belt and Road initiative (security facilities, traffic engineering, energy equipment, basic materials), all of which havebeen initiated and waiting for completion.

In addition to these special projects, China has developed foreign language versions across 3 key areas: industrial transformation, green development, and smart applications.

In engineering construction, published foreign language versions account for approximately 1/3 of all current national standards in this sector, covering more than 40 industries including construction, electric power, coal, petroleum, and nonferrous metals.

In transportation, 195 foreign language versions of national and sector standards have been released. Among them, foreign language versions of 80 standards were released during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. These cover traditional areas such as highway and waterway engineering and products, as well as emerging areas including smart transportation, green and low-carbon technologies, and BeiDou navigation applications.

As part of its ongoing work, SAC will increase foreign language standards in strategic areas under the 15th Five-Year Plan, including major technical equipment, emerging industries, modern transport, and new energy infrastructure. It will also monitor their use in overseas projects and trade, and deepen international alignment through the Belt and Road Initiative.

How to Use the Platform

The standards can be accessed without creating an account. Let us walk through an example using the standards: GB/T44271-2024 Information Technology – Cloud computing – General technical requirements of edge cloud

Before we start, make sure your computer has or can install a plugin called “FileOpen” which is a copyright protection system that SAC uses for this public platform.

If you do not have the plugin, please go to here to download.

If you are unsure whether your computer has the plugin installed, you can follow the steps below to locate a random standard, open it, and attempt to review it. If you are unable to review it, this indicates that the plugin is not currently installed on your computer.

  1. Go to National Public Serviec Platform for Standards Informationand toggle the English button in the top right corner to switch interface to English.

  1. Scroll down to the search bar. Enter the standards number. If you don’t know the number, you can enter a keyword (e.g. information security, cloud computing) to narrow your search. We recommend using only 1 keyword at a time. Then click “Filter Result”.

  1. Click on the search result to go to the detail page.

  1. In this detail page. From here, you can preview and download the standard, or get the Chinese version by clicking on the top right corner.

  1. After clicking the preview or download button, you will need to enter a verification code to proceed.

  1. Once entered, you can preview or download the standard.

  1. Note that the platform does not automatically clear your previous keyword search. You will need to manually clear it before starting a new search. If you forget to clear it, your next search may not work as expected.

If you have manually cleared the keyword but still get no results, it may be because the standard you are looking for has not yet been officially released for public access. This could be due to an ongoing review process before publication. For example, in January 2026, the SAC approved the release of English versions of 85 national standards. However, approval does not mean immediate release. If you cannot find a search result for one of those 85 standards, it may simply be because it is still under final review.

Other Functions

  1. Filter options: you can use the filter options by selecting Status, Publication Date, Language, and ICS Classification to narrow down your search and find the standard you need more quickly.

  1. Display options:You can change to display 10, 25, 50 standards per page.
