On 22 May 2026, a dedicated China-Russia-Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan (CRKK) standardization exchange took place during the 10th Silk Road International Exposition in Xi’an, Shaanxi province in China. The meeting brought together regulators, research institutes and industry representatives from the four countries to build standardization bridges and upgrade trade and economic cooperation along the Silk Road.
Discussions focused on coordinated standardization development in new energy, artificial intelligence, green building materials, equipment manufacturing, and oil and gas pipelines. Participants addressed standards system divergences and non-mutual recognition of testing and certification, reaching consensus in four priority areas:
- Digital economy: China’s standards development and data governance experience aligns with the three countries’ digital transformation needs.
- Energy equipment: Chinese technical outputs support regional energy infrastructure connectivity.
- Cross-border trade: Joint testing service platforms will remove trade facilitation bottlenecks.
- Green energy: China’s full-chain photovoltaic technical standards will assist regional low-carbon transition.
Four follow-up measures were agreed.
- Establish a regular exchange mechanism for standards comparison and technical matching.
- Accelerate practical cooperation including collaborative standardization and joint laboratory development.
- Advance mutual recognition of standards through key projects.
- Consolidate consensus to deepen Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) standardization cooperation.
Over 40 participants attended, including representatives from the State Administration for Market Regulation, the Shaanxi Provincial Market Regulation Bureau, standardization bodies of Russia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, leading Chinese standardization research institutes, and local enterprises and research institutions.
