On 27 and 28 July 2026, the Standardization Working Committee of the China Electrical Equipment Industry Association (CEEIA) held its 2026 annual plenary meeting in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. The meeting brouht together over 150 delegates from member companies, research institutes and technical committees.
The committee’s annual work report reviewed a 2025 record that included 130 newly published association standards and a portfolio of 784 standards in force, and set out 2026 priorities centred on the new-type power system, green and low-carbon development, and stricter compliance of standardisation procedures.
Mr. Tan Xiangning, Deputy Chief Engineer of the China Machinery Industry Federation, observed that machinery industry standardisation in the 15th Five-Year Plan period will shift towards quality and efficiency, a more systematic layout of standards supply, proactive leadership in international engagement, deeper integration with scientific and technological innovation, and strengthened whole-lifecycle management. He stressed that association standards should stay closely aligned with national plans, focus on key areas and frontier directions, and reinforce implementation and effectiveness evaluation, so as to drive coordinated upgrading across industrial chains and better serve the high-quality development of the machinery industry.
CEEIA Secretary-General Mr. Bai Wenbo noted the association’s solid progress in association standards supply over the past year. For 2026, he said, the committee will focus on priority areas such as the new-type power system and green and low-carbon development, accelerate the development of key standards, improve the quality and efficiency of standards supply, and bring independently developed technical solutions onto the international stage. He also stressed the need to benchmark against the latest management regulations, act proactively and keep all work compliant and orderly.
Two themes were repeatedly emphasised throughout the meeting. The first was the launch of the Implementation Guide for CEEIA Association Standardization under the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030), which sets quantified quality targets and positions association standards as a cultivation base for international proposals. The second was the rectification of association standards, through continued three-year reviews, clean-up of overdue projects, and alignment with the latest national rules on association standardisation.
SESEC observes that this rectification reflects a broader correction under way in China’s standardisation reform. Association standards are meant to lead innovation and aim higher than national and sector standards, yet years of rapid growth have left the field crowded with duplicate or even inferior output. The current clean-up is therefore less about adding standards than about removing poor ones, so that a cleaner tier can better support national standards and the preparation of international proposals. For foreign stakeholders, this points to a smaller but stronger field of Chinese association standards, and to Chinese proposals arriving at IEC with increasingly mature domestic backing.
