Since 2020, China’s focus on AI is shifting from mere technological development to high-quality development which means that the importance of AI governance is leveled up. In this context, SESEC closely examines relevant AI standard system and the newly-founded National AI Standards Technical Committee (SAC/TC28/SC42) mirroring ISO/IEC JTC1/SC42, as well as relevant laws, regulations and policies.
To inform the updates, SESEC held an online webinar on China Laws & regulations, Policies and Standards of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on 6 December 2022, which attracted more than 40 registrations. During the meeting, apart from elaboration on major laws and regulations, policies, most importantly, Dr. Betty Xu gave her analysis on the status quo of standardisation activities carried out by SAC/TC28/SC42 and each of its working groups. At the end of the meeting, Q&A session Dr. Betty Xu provided her insights on possible trend of development, as well as potential issues that might existed, which received unanimous praise from participants.
